Irinotecan belongs to CAMPTOTHECIN group of Anti-cancer drugs. It is poorly absorbed if given through oral route as it is a p-glycoprotein inhibitor and this limits its use only to an injectable drug.

The injectable Irinotecan is presently available as a hydrochloride salt solution in aqueous formulation. As Irinotecan is mainly indicated for colon cancer, unnecessary systemic exposure and toxicity by the injection dosage form are the main concerns.

Both poor oral absorption of Irinotecan molecule and unnecessary systemic toxicity of Irinotecan injection suggest the need of a colon specific oral formulation.

A oral formulation with colon specific release of Irinotecan in contrast to the existing Irinotecan Injection would solve both the issues; poor absorption and systemic toxicity associated in parenteral administration.

Our ORAL IRINOTECAN PREPARATION is Non-toxic to G.I. tract and stable at room temperature. It releases Irinotecan only in the colon following oral administration. It locally acts on colon cancer as it has high permeability into cancer cells.
